Pregnancy & Delivery
How do I know if my pregnancy is high-risk?
A pregnancy may be high-risk if you have conditions like diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, are over 35, carrying twins, or have a history of miscarriage. High-risk doesn’t mean something will go wrong — it means you need a specialist prepared for everything.
Normal delivery vs C-section — how is the decision made?
Dr. Sumiti always encourages normal delivery where clinically safe and only recommends C-section when medically necessary. You will always be informed and involved — never pressured. The decision is collaborative.
How many scans will I need during pregnancy?
Standard: 3–4 scans (viability at 6–8 weeks, NT scan 11–13 weeks, anomaly scan 18–22 weeks, growth scan 32–36 weeks). High-risk pregnancies may need additional Doppler and weekly NST in the third trimester.
Do you provide antenatal classes?
Yes — personalised birth preparation during third trimester: breathing techniques, labour positions, pain management, breastfeeding initiation, and newborn care. Partners welcome.
Gynecology & PCOS
What is PCOS and how is it treated?
PCOS is a hormonal condition causing irregular periods, excess androgens, and polycystic ovaries. Treatment uses a root-cause approach: lifestyle modification, hormonal regulation, weight management, insulin sensitisation, and fertility support. Plans are tailored to your goals.
When should I see a gynecologist for irregular periods?
If cycles are under 21 or over 35 days, excessively heavy, extremely painful, or missed for 3+ months without pregnancy. Don’t normalise pain or irregularity. Early evaluation catches PCOS, thyroid, fibroids, or endometriosis.
What are the signs of menopause?
Hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbance, bone density loss. Management: HRT where appropriate, calcium/Vitamin D, bone density monitoring, cardiovascular screening, and emotional wellness support.
Fertility
When should we seek help for infertility?
Under 35: after 12 months of trying. Over 35: after 6 months. Don’t wait if you have PCOS, endometriosis, irregular cycles, or male factor concerns. Early evaluation saves time and improves outcomes significantly.
What is IUI vs IVF?
IUI places sperm directly in the uterus during ovulation — simpler, first-line treatment. IVF involves egg retrieval, lab fertilisation, and embryo transfer — for complex cases. Dr. Sumiti always starts least invasive.
Surgery
What is laparoscopic surgery?
Minimally invasive “keyhole” surgery using tiny incisions. Treats fibroids, cysts, endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy, hysterectomy. Less pain, smaller scars, recovery in days not weeks. 500+ surgeries per year.
How long is laparoscopy recovery?
Home in 24–48 hours, normal activities in 5–7 days, full recovery 2–3 weeks. Compare to 6–8 weeks for open surgery. WhatsApp follow-up throughout.
